What is rose water?
Rose water is a fragrant, water-based liquid made by steeping rose petals in water. It has a sweet, floral scent and is often used in perfumes, cosmetics, and as a flavoring agent in food and beverages.
Rose water has a long history of use, with some records suggesting that it was used as far back as the 7th century BC. It is also used in religious ceremonies and traditional medicine. Today, rose water is commonly found in health food stores and specialty markets.

Rose Water Side Effects For Facial Skin
While rose water is generally considered safe for most people, there are some potential side effects to be aware of when using it on the skin. These include:
- Allergic reaction: Rose water may cause an allergic reaction, such as itching, redness, or swelling, in some people.
- Irritation: Applying rose water to the skin may irritate, especially if the skin is sensitive.
- Photosensitivity: Rose water may increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight, leading to sunburn or other skin damage.
If you’re considering using rose water on your skin, it’s best to do a patch test.
A patch test is a simple way to test your skin’s reaction to a product before using it more widely. Here’s how to do a patch test with rose water:
- Apply a small amount of rose water to an inconspicuous area of skin, such as the inside of the wrist or the elbow.
- Wait 24 hours to see if there is any irritation, redness, or other negative reactions.
- If there is no reaction, it’s likely safe to use the rose water on other areas of the skin.
If there is a reaction, it’s best to avoid using the rose water. If you’re concerned about a reaction, talk to your doctor or dermatologist before using rose water on your skin.

5. Rose water eye makeup remover
Rose Water eye makeup remover is another one of my favorite homemade products. Rose water mixed with coconut oil is one of the best makeup removers out there.
The only downside is that the oil tends to float on top of the rose water, so you have to shake it every time you use it, but it does the job.
6. Best rose water toner
Rose water is one of the most effective toners in the world. All you have to do is dip a tiny piece of sponge in the water, squeeze out the excess rose water and you’re good to go.

Homemade Rose Water For Skin Care
There are many ways to make pure rose water, and all of them will produce pure rose water, but I would advise you to be very careful in choosing the roses to make rose water. Roses should be fresh, and not sprayed with pesticides.
I prefer to use paneer roses as they are the best in terms of color and scent. In my area, it is difficult to get pesticide-free roses from the markets, so I prefer to grow my paneer roses and use them to make rose water instead.
I have also tried some store-bought rose water brands, but I found them to be very watered-down and artificial rose essence-based.
What Skin Type is Rose Water Good for?
Rose water can be used on all skin types, except if you’re allergic to roses. There are four basic skin types, and each one has its own needs.
Here’s how Rose Water Toner works for each type of skin:
- Sensitive Skin: Since rose water is known for its softness, it is great for people with sensitive skin who may have problems with other ingredients.
- Oily Skin: Rose water balances the skin’s essential oils and acts as a toning agent, making it ideal for oily skin.
- Dry Skin: As a natural hydrating agent, rose water hydrates the skin where it’s needed most. Rose water is ideal for dry skin because it provides a hydrating boost.
- Combination Skin: The benefits of rose water are just as clear with oily and dry skin as they are with combination skin. Rose water balances the natural oils in your skin and keeps your combination skin hydrated.
