Are sugar-free food increase blood sugar levels? Yes. Keep reading …

It’s strange to think that a food labeled as ‘sugar-free’ can actually increase your blood sugar levels.

It’s because foods can contain high amounts of carbohydrates from starchy and fibrous foods.

The only way to know for sure if food will increase your blood glucose is to look at the total carbs number on the label of the food.

You’ll also want to check if the food has sweeteners like sorbitol and xylitol in it. Both of these sugar alcohols sweeten foods with fewer carbohydrates than sugar, but they can still provide enough carbohydrates to increase your blood glucose.

Another example is food drinks …

Sports drinks are intended to help you rehydrate quickly after exercise. In fact, it’s important to avoid dehydration and replace electrolyte loss caused by sweating during exercise.

The problem with sports drinks is that most of them have as much sugar in them as a glass of lemonade or another soda.

Depending on which brand you buy, sports drinks can have anywhere from 50 to 100 calories per fluid ounce (60ml). They can also have 14 to 25 grams of carbs per fluid ounce.

So, if you drink one 8-oz sports drink, you’ll get at least 200 calories per fluid ounce and more than 50 grams of carbs.

You don’t need sports drinks unless you’re training for a marathon, in which case you’ll need plain water to replace what you’ve lost through sweat.

However, if you do choose to follow fashion and drink sports drinks, be sure to check the labels for calories and carbs.
