Gauteng Health Dept Target 95% Measles Vaccination Rate
Among Children
following a measles outbreak in which more than 200 cases
were confirmed, the Gauteng Department of Health has announced its intention to
vaccinate 95% of children in the province, according to Eyewitness News.
According to the department, the highly contagious illness could easily spread
in schools. Measles is most common in children aged 5 to 9 years old, according
to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.
Water Crisis Mounts in Nelson Mandela Bay as Main Dam
Reaches Record Low
Impofu, the Nelson Mandela Municipality’s main dam, has
reached a record low in water levels as the region’s eight-year drought
worsens, according to eNCA.

Ten water augmentation projects are being developed to meet
the needs of residents; however, dam levels are dropping at alarming rates, as
are power outages, which have hampered the water pumping capabilities of
smaller reservoirs.
Lights Out – Eskom Office Disconnected from Grid Over
Non-Payment
The failure to pay a bill totaling more than R500,000 to the
uMhlathuze municipality has resulted in the disconnection of the Eskom office
in Empangeni on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, according to TimesLive. The City
announced a campaign to disconnect those entities with large debts, following a
similar effort in Johannesburg, where businesses and residents owe more than R4
billion.
