Charlie Bird Shares ‘Good News’ Update Amid His Health Battle.

After noticing speech problems, the former RTÉ correspondent was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in 2021.

The 73-year-old thanked his followers on Twitter for their prayers and shared some “good news” with them over the weekend.

He wrote: “I want to thank everyone who has been praying for me, I got a bit of good news the other day I have been told I may not end up immobile.”

“Thank you all for your prayers. My heart goes out to all the MND patients who end up immobile.”

It comes after Charlie shared a heartbreaking Christmas message last month, admitting he doesn’t know how much longer he will survive.

“Hi, and Tiger wants to send you all Christmas wishes,” Charlie wrote alongside a picture of himself and his cherished dog Tiger.

But I must be honest; over the past few weeks, my MND has started to spread to my limbs, and I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to move around and live. However, I’d like to extend a friendly hand while I can.

In October, when discussing his diagnosis on the Late Late Show, Charlie said: “I have had a brilliant life. Truth be told, I’ve finally accepted my illness. I’ve accepted my situation completely in my head.

“I realize there is no magic solution, so I must move on with my life. In other words, I am fully aware of what lies in store for me.

What sustains me right now? My motto is “to extend the hand of friendship to everyone,” so I’ve decided to keep trying to help those who are in difficult situations.
